30 Day Challenge - Painting #11

"Listening To Records"
5"x5"
watercolor on paper
SOLD

Do kids today even know what records are?! And I seem to recall that the record player is actually the "Fisher Price" record player.  Oh FP -- you so rock -- what great product placement!  :)

So this is my 11th painting in a row for Leslie Saeta's 30 Day Challenge. I can't believe I've made it this far. I have a few bids on these paintings (if you've bid and are reading this post, thank you!) and m really happy to finally have started a series. I've wanted to do a series of Fisher Price paintings for a while now, and this Challenge has kept me disciplined enough to do it. I'm learning so much -- about painting, process and commitment. It's been great -- thank you Leslie.

And thank you all for viewing my work and supporting this whimsical painting spree I'm on.  :)

  1. That's a great painting! My two kids would love your Fisher Price paintings in their homes. You have taken those toys and incorporated them into beautifully composed paintings. I love that idea! I'm so curious to know the results of the 30 day challenge. What kind of revelations you've come to regarding your work, after this.

    1. Thank you, Katherine. These have been really great for me. I'll try to remember to share my findings here on my blog when the challenge is over. Mostly, right now -- it's VALUE, VALUE, VALUE. And with that I even mean -- get those darks in, so that they bring out the lights. That's so hard for me. Then there's all that color-mixing that's just crazy -- to find the right colors. Aaaahhh . . . so much to learn. :)

  2. Way to go Kara! I know these little guys would fly out like little birds! They are so cute and whimsical, also well composed...

  3. These works each carry such special memories. Your bright colors, painterly style and feeling you bring to each piece is a treasure to see. We have a huge record collection. Built our house so that the seating along the wall holds most of the records underneath. It is when we play them at parties that our kids think we are nuts ...not really...as they are old enough. But your work brings back those memories.

    1. What a lovely comment, Susan . . . thank you so much for sharing. It makes me happy that these paintings are bringing back happy memories for people. I love that you still have your vinyl. I have some, but not too many. There's nothing like hearing those little crackly scratches every once in a while. So magical. :)
