Value Sketches

hand sketch - wip

I've been working on some value studies.  I've always loved to draw and feel I need more practice - both with my graphite skills and seeing values.

Have a great weekend.

Gift Wrap and Painting

"Springtime" gift wrap collection

Well hello!  I've been a little side-tracked lately as May is a busy month for us.  Anyway  . . .  I did a little tweaking to the size of my "Springtime" collection of gift wrap. (The gift above is about 7" x 7" just to give you an idea of the scale.)  Gift wrap, along with fabric and wallpaper can be purchased through my Spoonflower store.

A new little painting I'm working on is "Nantucket Window" below.  It's still a work in progress, but almost done.  Have a lovely day!

Mini sketches

I did some mini sketching today . . . working from photos I took late last summer while traveling around Cape Cod.  It was a beautiful day and I got some nice pictures.  These minis help me to work out some kinks and practice.  Painting is a challenge.  :)  Have a great evening.

At A Snail's Pace

"Old Fashioned Hydrangea" - wip
Everything I'm working on lately is going at a snail's pace.  But that's okay, right?  Here's the little bit of progress from my hydrangea painting, detail below.

Have a great weekend!

Fabric Swatches

My Spoonflower fabric swatches are in and I apparently designed the fabric prints much smaller than the wrapping paper ... yippee!  Each square is 8" x 8".  I just LOVE Spoonflower!

Tiny Progress

work in progress - detail

I'm working on a very large commission:  40" x 50" watercolor on cradled aquabord -- yeow!  It's pretty exciting working this large albeit a little intimidating as well.  I had to have the aquabord custom made.  If you ever need to speak to the folks at Ampersand, they are very nice and extremely helpful. The board is beautiful.  Anyway, it's a slow process working this huge and unfortunately I can't share it with you yet, but I am taking some photos.  Meanwhile here's very minimal progress on my hydrangea: it's only 8" x 8"  :)  ....  Have a lovely day!

My Gift Wrap Is In!

Thank you, Spoonflower!!  My gift wrap is in!  They do such a beautiful job printing . . . I love their quality.  I'm just deciding on scale.  I've included the penny and my original images to show you how large the print is.  I think this scale works for wallpaper . . . maybe . . . but I think I want at least the multi-motif print scaled down for the fabric and gift wrap.  They give you the exact scale and dimensions when you're designing, but I still have a hard time picturing it.  I need to take more time planning that part out.  But anyway . . . I'm very excited.  I just now have a few decisions to make.  Let me know what you think.

Have a great day!

Weekend Progress

"Old-Fashioned Hydrangea" - wip

While working on a very large commission, I still managed to make a little progress on my hydrangea on aquabord and get a watercolor sketch/study done.  Hope you all had a good weekend.  Our Spring weather seems to finally be here in the Northeast.

Have a good start to your week . . . thanks for popping by.

More patterns

I've been playing around with some more patterns for my Spoonflower shop (which at the present time only has one design - ha!)  I've just ordered some new swatches so if they're to my liking I'll be sure to let you know when my new designs are up for sale.  Here's a sneak peek.

Enjoy your weekend!

My First Time

move over aquabord . . . there's new game in town

TMI you say?  Get your minds out of the gutter . . . I'm talking about my first time using claybord!!  What an interesting surface!  One of my students bought some by mistake -- tried it out and didn't like it, so she gave it to me -- thank you, Tina!!  :)  I'm really enjoying it so far.  It's very smooth and the watercolor kind of sits on the top.  It's easy to wipe away, but it's also easier to layer color over color I think and obtain darker darks than it is on the aquabord.  Hmmmm . . . very interesting.  I may have to use some more of this!

Thanks for popping in!
