LOUIS!

"Louis"
8" x 8"
watercolor on aquabord

I took a little time out over the weekend and Monday to finish "Louis."  He belongs to a dear friend and student of mine.  He's just as sweet as he looks.

Now back to bottles and lanterns. Have a lovely day.

Reflections

"Winter Whites" - work in progress
19.5" x 12.75"

One of my students took pictures of this lantern for her next project. We made some compositional adjustments in Photoshop, and I was particularly intrigued by this one. It's a difficult subject and I wanted to prepare for assisting my student with its many challenges. The body is metal with lots of reflections.

I've also done more work on my bottles, just haven't taken photos.  I'm looking to have these completed by next week.

Thank you for viewing my work. :)

More Painting

work in progress
watercolor on paper
16.5" x 12.25"

I took lots of pictures when I was preparing for the workshop I'm doing now and decided to work on a larger painting of glass.  I think it's safe to say that once this is finished it will satisfy my interest in glass for a while.  :)  I get completely lost . . . I don't know how Carrie Waller does it!

Oh . . . and my dad came up with the title for my last painting.  I emailed him the finished image and then called and asked what he thought would be a good name.  He started to talk it through and after only a few seconds said:  "Late Afternoon." I immediately knew that was it because as I was painting, I kept thinking that it looked more and more like late afternoon light. So thank you, Dad!  :)

Grrrrrr

I need a time machine.  So . . . I took this progress shot today while it was still light out and was very pleased with how things were coming together. Then I continued to paint. That's where the "Grrrrrrr" comes in.  I have gone a step too far I think and as I sit here comparing this photo to the painting propped up in my studio, I'm feeling a little sick. The painting is on Fabriano cold-press, so hopefully I can do some serious scrubbing and get this thing back on track tomorrow. I should never paint when it's dark out!!  :)  Have a good night.

Wednesday Work

work in progress
watercolor on paper
11" x 19"
I began this painting a while ago and it's been sitting in my studio.  I got all jazzed to start working on it again after I finished "Parlor Afternoon."  (and yes, I just used "jazzed" in a sentence!)  :)  So below is my progress . . .

Last night I had a wonderful second class at Workshop13.  My students are doing great work.  Unfortunately I forgot to load the battery into my camera, so no pictures.  Boooo!  I will try to remember next week so I can share their progress.

While my students were busy rendering their glass bottles, I took to doing a little Valentine inspired still life.  This is what I completed last night.

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a good day.

Parlor Afternoon

 "Parlor Afternoon"
19" x 11"
watercolor on paper

I've been staring at this painting for months now, wondering what my next move should be. Normally, I'd labor over the design on the red fabric on the quilt but decided that this painting is more about a sense of place and mood.  I like the quilt just the way it is and don't think this needs any more persnickety details. I did a little tweaking to the floor and some of the woodwork -- warming it up slightly and called it a day. I hope you like it. I may enter it in an upcoming show, so for now, I haven't put a price on it . . . I'm just going to stare at it a little longer.  :)  Thank you for stopping in.

Almost

WIP
watercolor on aquabord

I'm so close to finishing, I can taste it!  As the snow came down, I worked on the little flowers to the left (I have no idea what those are even called -- shame on me!)  and more of the glass today. For me, it takes lots of putting down pigment and then picking it back up to achieve a somewhat realistic look to the glass.  In some places I'm done and it's working, in others, I still have work to do. I also fiddled some with the background, mainly to play with value. In fact I should mention that this photo is kind of weird -- I think the background is more neutral in real life.  It's dark now in my studio and I had to take the photo without natural light, so the colors are off a bit -- maybe a little too saturated, especially the pinky/purple background.  I'll take a better picture tomorrow.  Maybe by then it will be done -- I certainly hope so. Thank you for taking peek, have a good night!

The Doggy Post

work in progress - aquabord
12" x 12

Oh boy, I'm at again:  barely moving on my flowers.  I had some painting interruptions last week (in addition to the regular ones consisting of typical household chores and MANY doggy needs: wanting to go out, come back in . . . go out again . . . come back in . . . pretend to want to go out but really just want attention . . . doggy lunch . . . go out again . . .  come back in . . . you get the picture).  But I'm determined to make some real dents in these two paintings this week.  You've seen the flowers before, however the one below is for my friend/student, Sue -- to whom I owe so much -- it's her Louis.  He's her special love.  So I really need to finish this for her.  I had originally wanted it to be a surprise but got excited and blew that!  :)

Speaking of doggies - I caught some of Puppy Bowl X yesterday and was completely enamored.  I had never watched any in the past but was flipping around the t.v. while working on my miniature kitchen and found it -- so stinkin' cute!  Puppies make for just plain, feel good t.v.  :)  Admittedly, I didn't watch the Superbowl, but after seeing the score I think it's safe to say that Puppy Bowl X was probably more riveting!

Have a great day and thank you for stopping by.
