wonderful painting I love painting black animals, have recently painted a black lab but can't post yet as it's a christmas gift. Your paintings are fabulous and so glad I came across your blog - have also liked your fb page
Really nice! You handled the palette really well. I am doing a black poodle and trying to figure out the colors. You have given me food for thought . . . As usual :)
Thank you so much Kaethe. And who's the love in your profile pic? I'm sure you'll have fun mixing those blacks. I like mixing violet and brown -- I usually mix a violet then add some umber or something. I'm sure your portrait will come out great.
Holy smokes! That's a watercolor?! (Never in a thousand years would I imagine myself say that cliche... :-P)But this really has blown me away... You've outdone yourself again, Kara. Way to go!
Love the vivid texture of the fur, and how the underlying patter show through to add interest. From the first photo it seems like this one is again painted on Aquabord? I was wondering whether you've used any resist agent (masking) on the white furs on his nose, or is that also lifting? Did you use synthetic flat brushes to lift most of the smaller white furs? It's really cool...
The realism is fantastic...and to accomplish this under the pressure of a commission. You amaze me...there is nothing you can't do! It is just stunningly beautiful.
Hello Kara:) I already thought the WIP 1 was beautiful, but your finished painting is even more beautiful. Love it! That expression, that fur, just amazing. Great art Kara!
Thank you Renate. I really appreciate your kind comments and encouragement. And that fur wasn't too bad to do. With aquabord, I could just scrape out some of the direction of the fur -- like scratchboard. It's such a cool surface. :)

DeleteI love the realism of the coat and how it contrasts against the background. Beautiful so far!
