Finished?

I think I'm done with this.  Not my best, but I've done far worse too.  :)  There are things I like and things I definitely could do better.  Actually the colors are a bit off in this photo as I took it under a light in my studio because it's dark outside now.  I'll have to take a look at it tomorrow in natural light.

In any case, I think it's back to "Tomatoes" tomorrow so I can finish that one up.  I'm excited to start something new, but I won't allow myself until I finish those crazy tomatoes.  Ok . . . so that's all for now.

Onion

8" x 8"

Well, I started another little painting today (not yet finished, but I will tonight).  I know, I know . . . I've got other paintings I still need to finish (poor Tomatoes!) so why am I dilly-dallying with a new one?  I don't know.  I guess I'm just an ADHD painter.  :)

So this little ditty is about 8"x 8" and is part of the Rookie Challenge website.  Check it out if you haven't already.  I've never done one before, but I liked the plastic wrap on this one and have never painted an onion before.  And just so you know I'm not totally slacking, I'm in the middle of designing and building a website for a friend of mine, so that's another reason why I haven't done much painting in the past couple days.  Ok . . . enough excuses.  It's almost dinner time.  Have a good night.

Antique Store Glassware

watercolor
9" x 23"

It's been a very busy weekend.  I attended my college reunion; it's been 20 years -- Yeeeow!  Hardly seems possible.  It was such a treat.  What an amazing group of people - so accomplished and talented; I feel extremely lucky to have spent four years with them and at such a wonderful school.  I could go on and on about the fantastic weekend I had (and the incredible mussels and bruschetta my brother made for Sunday dinner today), but alas this is an art blog.  :)

Soooo . . . in between the festivities I took a quick trip down to Mystic, CT to pick up "Antique Store Glassware," the piece that didn't make it into the CAFA show at the Mystic Arts Center.  I submitted two paintings hoping at least one would be juried in . . . so I was tickled that "Strawberries" was selected.  My wonderful dad kept me company making it an enjoyable little trip.

I'm hoping to paint some tomorrow.  Tonight I'm going to continue recuperating from all the dancing I did last night.  :)

Departure

5" x 5"
Daily Paintworks Challenge - acrylic

I needed to get into the painting groove again after about a week off so I checked out the Daily Paintworks Challenge and decided to give it a whirl.  You can view the challenge here.  In any case, I decided to try my hand at a quick acrylic.  But I MUST get back to my watercolors tomorrow.  I've just GOT to finish those crazy tomatoes!

Oh and in some other news, my painting "Strawberries" was juried into the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts 100th Exhibition in Mystic, CT today.  That show runs May 27th through July 16th at the Mystic Arts Center.  So if you can, check it out, it's a really wonderful exhibit - so much talent - and if you've never been to Mystic -- it's beautiful!

Strawberries

Slowly But Surely . . .

I managed to do a little more work on "Big Tomatoes" but not nearly enough.   It's been a long week since I last blogged.  But I'm back painting again.  Hope to paint (and post) more consistently now.  Have an enjoyable day.  The sun is finally out here -- yippee!

Homestretch?

Oh "Big Tomatoes" . . . when will you be done?

So I haven't yet finished "Big Tomatoes" but it's getting there.  I feel like I'm entering the homestretch at least.  I can't wait until I can take off the masking fluid.  It's killing me, but I'm trying to be patient so I don't screw things up and take it off too soon.  (Done that before!)  :)

And now I must confess . . .  I started something new and haven't posted it:  mainly because when I showed the work-in-progress to my dad and husband, neither one knew what it was.  Yeeow!  That's definitely not good.  :)  But alas, I'm going to be brave and to prove that I haven't been totally slacking, I'll post it.  But I must tell you that it's a close-up of a Ball canning jar filled with chocolate eggs covered in foil.  My sister-in-law had these out at Easter and I couldn't resist taking a photo.  They were just so colorful; I thought they'd make a great painting.  It's obviously not done yet . . . perhaps it's a miss, (I don't know if I'll ever achieve that look of foil) but it's a good challenge.  In the meantime, I'll keep plodding along and posting.  Cheers!

Daily Paintworks Entry

"Peel Me A Grape" . . . (Tomato?)
6" x 6"

I must have a serious tomato fetish.  This week's Daily Paintworks Challenge is vegetables.  Pretty much this was all I had in my fridge worth painting, although I did toy with the idea of painting a jar of pickled beets!  (I do love tomatoes though).  So now it's back to my "Big Tomatoes" . . . have a good weekend!

Disappeared!?

It seems as though my last post disappeared and I don't know why.  I think there was some mess up with blogger, because I received a message earlier when I logged on, that blogger was temporarily out of service or something.  So here's the image of "Big Tomatoes" from earlier this week.  I hope to have it finished soon.  :)

Big Tomatoes . . . continued

Well . . . it's been too long since I last blogged.  The pollen has been wreaking havoc on my allergies (whine, whine, whine, eh?) . . . but it's put me behind the eight ball and has sapped my energy.  But alas I have managed to do a teensy bit of work on "Big Tomatoes."  And although I haven't done much painting, I've managed to still stay creative, finishing a little punch needle piece I had started a year (or more) ago, and have done a little design work for a community project here in town.  I'm hoping though that the allergies will soon be subsiding (they usually don't last too long for me) and I'll be able to get back to my daily routine.  In the meantime, Happy Sneezing!  :)

Academic Artists Association 61st Annual National Exhibit

I just saw the exhibit at the Karen Sprague Cultural Center at American International College in Springfield, MA, yesterday and it was terrific!  So many amazing pieces; it was very inspiring.  If you get the chance and are in the area, check it out.  The show runs from May 2nd through May 14th -- noon to 4 pm.

I'll be back to painting today -- I've made some more progress on the Tomatoes.  The colors in that last post were kind of yucky (that's a very technical art term) . . . they're a little more vibrant in the original.  I'll try to get a closer representation of the original in future photos.  I'll try to post something tonight . . . until then . . . "Paint On!"  :)

Moving Along

24" x 24"

I was hoping I'd be further along by now, but unfortunately it's slow-going when I have to stop and scratch or blow my nose every few minutes . . . these allergies are driving me CRAZY!  But alas, Spring is finally here!  :)  Anyway, I'm hoping to crank on this tonight and have more to show you tomorrow.  Have a good evening.

Little More

Got a little more done yesterday.

I did a little more work on my tomatoes yesterday. I'm hoping to work on it today some. I've got some other responsibilities to tend to though, so we'll see. It's a beautiful day here . . . finally seems like Spring!
