Bouncing Around

"Raspberries" -- wip
9" x 9"

I'm still working on all my citrus paintings but in the meantime I couldn't resist starting another one.  :)  So here's my work in progress on "Raspberries."  I'm back working on the Fabriano for this one.  I do love that paper! That and the Aquabord are my favorite surfaces.

Mini Blueberries

I did a version of this painting last year, but in a square format.  I was interested in doing something for the Daily Paintworks Challenge last week, but never got around to it.  In my haste, I just grabbed this photo and decided to give it a whirl.  I don't think I ever painted a watercolor this small.  It's an Artist Trading Card size or ACEO as I guess they're called now -- stands for "Art Cards Editions and Originals."  Whatever you want to call them, it was fun to do.  Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Galway Bay

"Galway Bay"
9.25" x 8"

It was a rough week for painting . . . just couldn't get a lot done but I did manage this one.  It's another departure for me as I don't do many landscape paintings, however one of my students brought photos of her trip to Ireland that she wanted to paint.  Well let me just say, I couldn't resist having a crack at that sky.  It was a lot of fun.  I love my students!  They continue to challenge me and force me out of my comfort zone.  Like Martha Stewart says,  "it's a good thing."  Have a great weekend.

Sunlit Lemons

"Sunlit Lemons"
8" x 8"

(what this painting could look like framed)

This is another painting on Aquabord so it is is finished with a protective coating and needn't be matted or framed under glass.  Thank you again "Paint and Draw Together" for the reference photograph and thank you to all you readers for viewing my work.  I really appreciate you taking the time to look and comment.  Have a great weekend!

Almost There

"Sunlit Lemons"
8" x 8"

I'm so close to finishing I can taste it . . . and it tastes like lemon!  :)  I recently got a new monitor and so now I'm completely confused as to whether or not these paintings look anything like their originals with regards to their colors.  I'm using my new monitor to compare to my original, but I still have the old monitor and now that one looks a bit darker.  Goodness knows what these things look like on your monitors! Hopefully they're not too weird.  I probably should start viewing my blog on friends' monitors just to make sure.

Anyway, thought I'd post this so you could see my progress.  I'm almost there.

More Progress & Wild About Citrus!

"Cynthia's Oranges" (work in progress)
12" x 12"

"Sunlit Lemons" (work in progress)
8" x 8"

"Bowl of Limes" (work in progress)
9" x 12"

I'm finally getting around to painting from some reference photos that were so kindly sent to me from fellow blogger/artists (in fact I still have a couple more in the works -- so thank you and stay tuned!)  The oranges in the first image had such dramatic lighting I absolutely couldn't resist.  Thank you Cynthia Schelzig!  Cynthia makes cards, binds books, draws, paints -- you name it, she does it. I wish she lived closer so we could do art together and she could teach me how to make books. She is very talented and has a totally inspiring blog called Gallery 46 -- you should definitely check it out.

"Sunlit Lemons" is from the Paint And Draw Together blog -- I have a few reference photos from past PADT posts that I'm hoping to get to soon, and "Bowl of Limes" is a photo I took a few years ago.  I'm loving this aquabord -- it can be challenging though . . . but I'm having fun.  And isn't that what this is all about!?  So stay tuned as I finish these up and get more going . . . I have so many paintings in my head (and on my computer) that there just isn't enough time!

"Up-Front"

Here we go again . . . #3 in a series of small cherry paintings.  Again, this is done on Ampersand Aquabord so it doesn't need to be framed under glass . . . or framed at all for that matter.  Thanks for looking and hope you have a great day.

Polka Dot Cherry

"Polka Dot Cherry"
5" x 5"

(what this painting could look like framed)

I just finished this "cheery" little cherry painting.  I think it's kind of cute . . . very happy . . . and sort of "summer-y." I have a few other cherry paintings up my sleeve.  I'm planning to do them all on Aquabord, just like this one.  So it needn't be placed under glass -- in fact it really doesn't need a frame at all and could be propped up anywhere, or hung with a little hanger placed on the back.  Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!

Updated

"Autumn Sunlight"
5.25" x 7.5"

(what this painting could look like framed)

You may notice that this is cropped a little differently than the last post.  I think by pulling it in a little more on the left makes a more pleasing arrangement of the space.  However, I will leave the painting as is and let the buyer decide what to do.  Make no bones about it, I'm definitely NOT ready for Fall, but I DO love pumpkins (and painting "wallpaper").

Have a great day . . . and thank you for looking!

Don't Worry It's Still Summer

"Autumn Sunlight"
approx. 5" x 11"

I'm just finishing up some tiny details on this but thought I'd post anyway.  I started this painting as a little study to help a student of mine with washes on a pumpkin but decided to turn it into a "real" painting and finished it up (almost) this evening.  I'll complete the little details in the morning and photograph it in the daylight.  Hope you are having a delightful summer (everyone in this hemisphere anyway) . . . don't worry Autumn isn't here yet.  :)

Sunlit Lemons - WIP

"Sunlit Lemons" - WIP
8" x 8"

I worked on this yesterday.  I'm hoping I don't beat it to death as I like the luminosity I've got going so far.  This is on Aquabord -- which I'm LOVING!  Did I mention that before?  :)  The reference photo for this painting is from one of the "Paint and Draw Together" past challenges.  I wanted to try some lemons again.

Anyway . . . Happy Fourth of July, America!  It's a little drizzly here this morning, but I'm hopeful the sun will come out shortly.  At least that's what the weather reports are saying.  Have a great day, wherever you are.  :)

Happy Birthday America

I really do like painting on Ampersand's Aquabord.  This is another small painting done on the board and finished with a gloss acrylic sealer.

Below is an image of that larger piece I'm working on - it has progressed a little since the last time I posted it and thought you might like to see.  Until the next time I post -- I hope all you American's have a joyful Fourth of July!
