A "Life" Adjustment

"Life" - with a little adjustment
6" x 6"
(watercolor on paper)

I received some great advice today from my friend and fellow artist/blogger, Roger Akesson.  He suggested that when I paint the larger version of this painting, I clarify the back cherry from the "middle" one, as their edges were a bit ambiguous (you can see the original here).  He was right. So I did a little adjusting on this small painting and I think it works better now - although I'll probably gently change the shape of the back one when I do this again. Thank you, Roger!  :)

In preparation for a much larger painting, I did this smaller version to work out some colors and techniques.  Thank you for viewing my work.

Progress Shot -- Almost Done

I had a lovely day painting with my dear friend, Bill, while he worked on a sculpture. He's an art teacher where I used to work and we've been friends since high school. He's an amazing teacher and artist -- I'll have to post some shots sometime of the piece he's working on. He's very talented.

So this is what I worked on today. Just a few more tweaks and it will go up onto DPW for auction by the end of this week. This one is back on Fabriano hot pressed paper. It was great fun and came together pretty fast. Have a loverly day!

Happy Fourth of July!

"Berries and  Cherries II"
6.4" x 5.75"
watercolor on paper

I thought this painting a very fitting image for the Fourth of July, what with all it's red, white and blue . . . Happy Independence Day! I've posted my progress shots below in case you missed them before -- and just because I think it looks cool to click on them and watch the painting change before your very eyes!  :)

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day!

Berries and Cherries II - The Steps

Kind of patriotic I think . . . Happy Fourth of July Eve to all my American friends!  :)  Light a sparkler for me.  Thanks for stopping by.

Another Progress Shot . . . and Rejection

Just thought I'd share this shot of my progress on these 3 paintings. Also, I entered "A Moments Rest" in the Academic Artists Association's show and was rejected. You just never know. So if you're a beginner out there (most of us who've been doing this for a while know already) -- you just can't get down or take it personally if you get rejected from a juried show -- it happens to all of us at one time or another and I've definitely had my fair share . . . with many more to come I'm sure.

I've included a couple shots of "A Moment's Rest" all framed up because I thought it came out really well.

Have a great day!

Berries and Cherries

"Berries and Cherries"
6.3" x 9"
(watercolor on paper)
SOLD

How can something so heavenly to eat, be so hellish to paint? I keep painting strawberries and after each one is done, I think "that's the last time I'm going to do that!" Yet, I do it again. This actually isn't a great photo of this painting, but you get the idea.

Thanks for stopping by.  Happy painting!

Here we go again . . . #3 in a series of small cherry paintings.  Again, this is done on Ampersand Aquabord so it doesn't need to be framed under glass . . . or framed at all for that matter.  Thanks for looking and hope you have a great day.

Polka Dot Cherry

"Polka Dot Cherry"
5" x 5"

(what this painting could look like framed)

I just finished this "cheery" little cherry painting.  I think it's kind of cute . . . very happy . . . and sort of "summer-y." I have a few other cherry paintings up my sleeve.  I'm planning to do them all on Aquabord, just like this one.  So it needn't be placed under glass -- in fact it really doesn't need a frame at all and could be propped up anywhere, or hung with a little hanger placed on the back.  Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!

Happy Birthday America

"Jubilee"
5" x 5"

(what this painting could look like framed)

I really do like painting on Ampersand's Aquabord.  This is another small painting done on the board and finished with a gloss acrylic sealer.

Below is an image of that larger piece I'm working on - it has progressed a little since the last time I posted it and thought you might like to see.  Until the next time I post -- I hope all you American's have a joyful Fourth of July!
