In preparation for a much larger painting, I did this smaller version to work out some colors and techniques.  Thank you for viewing my work.

  1. I like the simplicity in this one and the contrasts between the detailed cherries and the hints of the bowl.

  2. The values in your cherries are so like those in the sketch, that I can't help but conclude the sketch was a useful step.
The surface of these cherries is really amazing: the color, the shine (do you lift?). And I very much like the light curvy stems.

  3. Kara, did you work from the drawing only, from life, from both? Many artists I've talked to tell me paint ONLY from their sketchbooks. I couldn't ever quite believe them, not thinking it possible. Then I saw the drawing in the last post, where you really have all the information except the color (which is often best imagined).

Thank you so much for commenting!
