Trying a Still Life

"Cobalt Blues"
(approximately) 7.5" x 6.75"

So I thought I'd give a still life a whirl.  I went over an hour -- about 15 minutes.  All that pattern took a little while.  Below are two photos showing the progress on my larger painting.  Hmmm . . . we'll see how it goes.
getting there . . .

with even a little more done on the quilt and latch

Finally, since Teddy got a cameo in this blog last week, I thought I'd include a shot of Delilah.  She apparently put herself in "time out" yesterday (in my little garden) because Teddy was bugging her so much.  He won't jump the fence (of course she's not supposed to either!)  :)  Until I post again . . . have a glorious day!

  1. You did that in an hour? (Get out!!!) It's beautiful, Kara. I don't know how you do that. (I can't even finish the drawing of a painting like that in an hour...)

The quilt is looking great. I can't wait to see how it looks finished!

I also have a small question regarding what you put in when doing the underpainting -- do you focus on putting in information of light and dark? Warm and cool? Do you do details in the underpainting at all? I'm very intrigued...

  2. Nice work, and I am impressed that you are pushing your limits. =)
It is fun to walk on the wild side, isn't it?

    Happy painting.

  3. J'adore votre souci du détail... Un travail parfait.
Votre bouteille bleue et sa transparence est très belle.
Gros bisous et une caresse à votre amie à quatre pattes.

  4. Can't believe you painted that in an hour!!! There is no way I would have achieved that! Often times I'm envious of those loose watercolors done in 20 mins to a couple of hours. Could you imagine being able to finish several paintings in a day!!!! Loving your wip. I have struggled with a way to incorporate quilts into my work and not have them look "too country". I think this is perfect, it has a wonderful feeling!! Love Delilah:))) What a cutie! I guess siblings are the same whether they're in human form or puppy form, they just need to get away sometimes:)
