More Bittersweet

I finished this one last night.  I had a heck of a time getting the computer image to match the painting.  It's always going to be a little different and I have no control over everyone's monitor settings, but it seems that I'll get the image's colors to appear accurately in Photoshop, but during the uploading process they'll fade out or something and change altogether.  Ugh.  The lower shadows on the door may appear slightly lighter in this image than they are in real life . . . yes . . . I think there is a hair more contrast between the lights and darks. But I think for the most part you get a fair idea of what this painting looks like in person. Anyway, I hope you like it.  Have a great weekend.

  1. Une très jolie oeuvre. Je vous comprends, il n'est jamais simple d'obtenir un résultat photographique correct... Finalement, peut-être tant mieux, autrement on ne nous achèterait plus que les copies.
    Gros bisous

  2. Isn't it a pain to get the image to look right. Some paintings that I think are going to transition well don't and some that I think are going to be a pain work out beautifully. I just realized this week that when I photographing WIP--which is normally at night without any natural light--that I can go in my laundry room where I have even fluorescent lighting and get a pretty good image. Have you tried scanning your work? I take mine to an Architectural printer and they scan it on their blue print scanner--works really well on most paintings and they can take huge works. And love this painting by the way:)

    1. Carrie, be careful about the fluorescent lights -- the color spectrum distribution of these white lights are very different from day light. They emphasize greens and blues much stronger than reds and oranges. In other words, on your current piece of mainly greens, they may work very well, but on some of your paintings that are dominated by warmer colors, the color would not look as vivid and bright...

I would like to try a good scanner -- thanks for the tip!

  3. Beautiful painting! So serene and quiet. It has a lovely New England-esque feel about it, which reminds me of my roots, so I'm biased, but I think it's splendid.

  4. I really love the soft, lifted shadow patterns on the upper left corner, and how the muted colors in the door makes the berries' bight red and orange sing. The quiet and serene atmosphere of the painting is so inviting, yet mysterious.
