"Really Big Shoe"

"Really Big Shoe" - wip 1
12" x 21"
(watercolor on paper)

I bet you thought by the title, that this post was going to be about Ed Sullivan.  :)  Nope.  It's just my favorite shoe to paint, making its appearance again.  So here are the first couple of washes with some masking on the polka dots.

In other news, I received word that both of my paintings made it into the Monson Arts Council's Spring Show.  In case you forgot which ones I entered, I've re-posted them below.  Have a great weekend and thank you for coming by.

Monson Arts Council Spring Show 2012

The Monson Arts Council Spring Show is up and it looks terrific. It is only open on the weekends, but if you are in the area, do try and check it out. There are some very clever works included in this year's show. They also have an online gallery of the show for those of you who are too far away to attend.

I was happy to discover that my good friend Bill Simons won 1st Prize for his 3-D Multimedia Piece "The Curse is Broken . . . Imagine That!" and my other good friend, Cheryl Adams,' intaglio print "Attitude" is already sold! (although it's not yet marked online -- so if you're interested in purchasing, do still inquire) (oh . . . and I'd put a link to her blog or website but she doesn't have one . . . yet. That's just me being fresh and checking to see if she reads my blog, heh-heh!)

Lastly, I was happy to see that my painting "American Summer" won an Honorable Mention. I felt very lucky as there were MANY paintings that also deserved recognition. (For those of you who have entered juried shows before, you know how it goes . . . you just never know.) Anyway . . . my painting is for sale, along with "White Light" through the Monson Arts Council if you are interested in purchasing either. Hope you all had a deeeelightful St. Patrick's Day yesterday. May the wind be always at your back . . .

Monson Arts Council

"White Light"
$325

I'm happy to announce that both "White Light" and "American Summer" were accepted into the Monson Arts Council's 19th Annual Spring Show. If you are in the area, the show is up from March 17th to April 1st -- although I think it's only weekends. You can get the specifics here at the MAC website. This year there will be an online gallery welcoming purchases. As details become available, I'll post them here. In the meantime, the following image is what this painting looks like in its frame. It's a beautiful wooden frame that has an antiqued silver look to it.

What else can I tell you?  Oh . . . I started another painting -- here are the first two "steps" in its progress. I have a couple others to finish up that I previously posted in progress but haven't yet completed, however I just felt the need to start something new. Exciting stuff. (It's good to have simple pleasures!)  :)  So that's all . . . have a nice day. I think we have some snow coming this way here in the Northeast -- just a couple inches though, nothing to get my knickers in a twist over.

American Summer

"American Summer"
11" x 29"

"American Summer"
(detail)

(what this painting looks like in its frame)
outer dimensions 17.5" x 35"

Well I made the deadline!  I was finishing this painting for a juried show in Monson, Massachusetts at the Monson Arts Council into the wee hours of the morning and framing it when I got up. I hate it when that happens. :) Usually I'm not down to the wire like that.

I submitted this one along with the white pitcher and eggs (which I renamed "White Light" by the way). It's a woman's prerogative to change her mind, right? So I'll keep you posted on its fate. Just so you know, it's framed -- just like above, as that's the actual frame. Although because I didn't take a photo of it I had to piece the frame together in Photoshop. I assure you though, it's a very beautiful frame and is about 2 1/4" inches wide. There's about 3 inches of white matboard showing on three sides (3 1/2" on the bottom) and I used plexiglas instead of standard glass so it is much lighter to hang and easier to ship if need be.

So that's my story. I will post the framed version of "White Light" soon. If either is accepted, I will put up the link to the online purchase site as all sales will go through the Monson Arts Council. In the meantime, you can always contact me if you're interested. Because I have a few pieces out there now being juried that I am awaiting word on, keep an eye out here on my blog as I'll be posting other purchase information as it becomes available.

Thanks for reading!  I'm excited to start some new small ones.  Happy Painting!
