Blue Bowl with Apples

"Blue Bowl with Apples"
6.5" x 7.5"

(what this painting could look like framed)

I'm going to have to re-shoot this one . . . as it has some glare on it, but until I do, this gives you an idea of what this painting looks like.  Have a good weekend.

. . . Gaahhh . . . Update . . . I re-shot this one, but I didn't end up changing this image, nor adding the new image to a new post.  I think that when you click on these above images to make them larger, the contrast may be too severe.  But at the regular "post" level, they look more true to life (if that makes sense).  Anyway -- I did change the photos in Daily Paintworks -- (when I upload there, they seem to desaturate the image overall) and the glare was distracting.  So hopefully those images better reflect what this painting really looks like.  All in all, I do my best to create the most accurate depiction of my original painting on my monitor and use as little editing as possible.  This time, I had to use the burn tool in Photoshop to create a more accurate value contrast between the cloth, background and cupboard.  I must say however, I usually try to leave the image at a state where the original still looks best.  That can be difficult when you want it to look good but not too good and sometimes when they're enlarged, they look different than the smaller image on the computer screen.

Ok . . . that's all . . . enough . . . I'm going to go watch some t.v. before bed.  :)

  2. Photographing art is difficult. I see the glare, and I think it will get more depth without it, but it is still beautiful as it is. Well done.

  3. Another fabulous piece! I struggle with photographing art also, I've taken it to a place that specializes in scanning large works--that works some time but still can have problems with the color. I've found that photographing under fluorescent lights works pretty well, still may have to mess with the color in photoshop.

    1. Thank you Carrie. It's so crazy trying to get the colors right -- especially when you know that they're not even going to look the same on someone else's screen. It's also weird because when I upload to DPW or here, the image changes. On DPW I find it gets dulled out a bit. And I obviously want it to look accurate and to draw people in to view it, so I often have to change the saturation. But then it gets tricky because when you zoom in, it may look too saturated. It can be a tough balance. Oh well . . . enough of that. Have a good day.

  5. I love how you captured the velvetiness of the cloth, and the subtle warm-cool contrast on the wooden furniture. I think it is virtually impossible to adjust the color and value contrast perfectly for an on-screen viewing experience, since every screen displays color temperature and saturation so differently! I've had my share of frustrations in this department... This painting looks beautiful with quite dramatic value pattern both on my iPhone screen and on my laptop though ;-)

    1. Thank you Arena. I know it can be tough getting an accurate photo. I'm glad this looks good on both your screens. :)
