Daffodils For June

"Daffodils for June"
6" x 6"
(watercolor on aquabord)

For many years in a row, my friend June would go out and about in her town and plant daffodil bulbs in the fall so that in the spring people would be greeted by the happy blooms sprouting up all over the sides of the country roads. "It just puts people in a good mood," she'd say. And June loves to be put "in a good mood" . . . but what's even better, is it doesn't take much to get her there. She'll often call me up and say something like "hey Kara . . . I just saw a beautiful, old-fashioned phone booth for sale on the side of the road on the way back from NH and it just put me in a good mood!")

Anyway . . . June has a lovely little cookie shop and is putting together some Easter baskets and wanted a daffodil painting that could be made into a little gift tag, hence "Daffodils for June" was born. Thank you for visiting and have a lovely day!

P.S. - I can't wait to see June's daffodils this year . . . they've multiplied over the years and it really is a wonderful treat!

My Other Life

June's Bakeshop postcard

I had wanted to post yesterday but sometimes I'm doing other creative things.  In any event, the little "painting" above (most of which was manipulated in Photoshop from a painting I did a long time ago), is serving as a marketing postcard for my friend's Christmas Open House.  (I'm sure you could've figured that out on your own!)  :)

June's Bakeshop looks just like this, perched in her beautiful yard.  She bakes cookies and cakes and is basically an artist of confectionary delights.  Her cookies are amazingly crafted and clever and taste just as good as they look.  If you are in the area I urge you to stop by her Open House: it's truly an experience.  You can find more information about her cookies and where to find her shop at www.junesbakeshop.com.

So anyway . . . getting back to my Post Title -- this is "my other life" -- designing June's advertising.  I also built her website (my first one) and have built a few others including my own, www.backroadsstudiotour.com and www.kleinedlerstudios.com.  They're not really fancy, but they get the job done.  So sometimes when it seems like I'm "hiding" from my blog, I'm working on design things and updating sites.

In other news, I think I'm just about done with my pumpkin cart painting.  I may tweak the wood a little bit more, but you get the idea.  I haven't signed it yet, so I threw up a "signature" in Photoshop.  And below is my new little people painting.  It's just a small one.  I'm hoping to finish up this one while I also work on finishing the 3 larger ones I have.  I also have another Fisher Price painting (8" x 10") "on deck," not to mention the other 6 or so paintings that need finishing!  Yeeouch!  Busy, Busy, Busy!  :)

Have a great day -- thank you for stopping by!

P.S.  I'm glad haircuts only cost 25 cents at this barber shop because this little boy only has 3 strands of hair!  :)

MIA . . . Halloween Snowstorm

You'll have to pardon the lack of art but we were hit with a crazy snow storm on Saturday night and have been without power ever since.  EEEEiyow!  It's a bit chilly, but not as bad as it could be.  The only thing that really rots is we're without water because we have a well (and no generator!)  Boo!!!  So I'm living like a colonial -- I should be all excited about it, as I'm a huge lover of antiques, Old Sturbridge Village, old homes, yadda, yadda, yadda.  But the lack of running water has me a bit put out.  I feel like I'm living with an inch of grunge on everything -- with dogs running all over the place, wet and dirty paws and me having to ration the water we do have.  But my friends have let us use their shower -- thank goodness!

I was able to get a little internet to write this post at my friend June's.  She owns June's Bakeshop  right down the road.  (BEAUTIFUL and DELICIOUS cookies and cakes) and I take care of her website - if you have a moment, check her out.  (and she ships!)  :)  I've been working on some paintings so I'll have some things to show you once we get our cable up and running again.  (The cable is literally lying on the ground in the front yard.  How nuts is that?  Luckily we don't have live wires, but it's creepy driving around dodging wires and trees.)

So that's the scoop here.  Not exactly sure when we'll be back up and running or I'll be clean again.  :)  I'm hearing Thursday.  Let's hope!  We've actually been very lucky . . . the past few years have brought some wild weather with major power outages to this area and we've dodged it all, so it's our turn.  That being said -- until we're juiced again --- Cheerio!
