work in progress 11" x 6.75" watercolor on paper |
I hope you all had a lovely weekend. I do love this bottle. I began this painting last week. Does anyone else out there HATE masking fluid? I felt I needed it for the wallpaper background, but what a pain. I avoid using it at all costs. And besides, I always take it off too soon because I get impatient and am a terrible judge of values. So even though I THINK I have the values figured out right, they usually never are and I have to rework them anyway and by then applying the masking fluid was a big waste of time anyway. Oh boy . . . good thing I love to paint. :)
Thanks for stopping by. :)
Whatever methods you're using... this piece is awesome! You are really bringing the glass to life, beyond just looking touchable, it has a character and mood to it that one would see and feel if we were actually in the same room. I don't use masking fluid, no, I shudder at the thought of doing that to my paper surface. But I do use frisket film. It's slow and laborious, but does the trick for me.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Katherine for your thoughtful comments and your kind words. Okay, so what is frisket film exactly and where do I buy it? I've read about artists using it, & kind of know about it I think (my friend used to use it for his airbrush work) but I've never been able to find it as of recent. I so hate masking! :)
DeleteI was going to ask how you did the background! I am attracted to patterns but haven't the patience to render them and usually make a hash of it (when I even attempt it).
ReplyDeleteI think mask is a pain too, and I'm never happy with the results ... But your background turned out beautifully, and is the perfect backdrop for the warm brown bottle.
Thank you so much Laura. I'm sure your backgrounds aren't as bad as you say. We're our own worst critics! And sometimes I labor over these backgrounds, only to obliterate them later with washes because they compete too much with the foreground. So you're probably better off staying vague and loose! :)
